Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
We continue to move at an unstoppable pace! The WISA project has literally hit the road to collect data through ground surveys and electronic tools. Yuva Janaagraha aims to reach 10,000 students this year and is piloting a research methodologies course in a few colleges. Ward 35's community in our pilot Area Sabha programme has got approval for projects under the Community Participation Fund in JNNURM. All major political parties came together to present their manifestoes for Bangalore to the citizens at the Suvarna Bengaloru Pranalike hosted by us. Bala Janaagraha is piloting a new programme this year in a select number of schools. India Urban Space 2008 will be held in Delhi in the month of December.
The numbers of additional resources needed to meet these objectives are very high. Part time volunteering opportunities are present in the WISA, Bala Janaagraha and Yuva Janaagraha programmes. These are priority areas as they have or will commence groundwork over the next couple of weeks. A comprehensive listing of the volunteering opportunities is available at www.janaagraha.org
We urge you to circulate this newsletter to as many people as you can to enable them to connect with us. There is much to be done and we need many hands on board!

RIBBON OF HONOUR: Manaswini Rao
Manu – also known as the Janaagraha Wikipedia in the office - has shown herself to be a great sponge, taking in all the nuances of being in the public change space, and demonstrating that she is an extremely fast learner. She has shown determination and drive to get noticed in the organisation. She is also a risk-taker, given how she walked away from a promising career in one of India’s best firms, and chose instead to invest in developing a completely new career path especially coming at a time in our country’s history where India’s youth today is demonstrating a singular focus on being upwardly mobile on the corporate track.
Given her passion, commitment and inherent skills, she has the capacity to be a leader in the public change space. As one of her colleagues said, she is a “living breathing example of all that Janaagraha stands for.”

WEARING THE V HAT
Rahul Nathan, Technology Volunteer : " My association with Janaagraha goes back to 2006 when I started helping Jannagraha manage its computers. A great team, wonderful leadership, highly knowledgeable people meant that I learnt a lot... The most interesting challenge with Janaagraha has been to achieve big things by doing it in simple and small way... At Janaagraha the challenges are exciting and very fulfilling when they are achieved. Great team work, commitment, setting realistic goals, being innovative is some of my take aways. And the entire Janaagraha family makes me feel at home and is so supportive that nothing looks impossible. From desktop computer management to Email Services management, my journey with Janaagraha has been very exciting and looking forward to many more exciting days ahead. "
Ramesh Swamy, Bala Janaagraha Volunteer:" I am Dell SPOC for Bala Janaagraaha activity across 7 schools in Bangalore. I teach kids of A V Education school in J P Nagar and been fun all the way. I look forward to Saturday sessions and with such enthusiastic kids in the class it gives immense satisfaction after successful delivery of a class. It was a great forum for volunteering and finally giving back to the society for a better tomorrow. Isn't this responsibility of every one to help the society we live in and make it better for everyone ? Professionally I am trainer and hence it was easy to get in to this activity. Also I liked the two-fold theme of BJ – Kids and Education."

Interview with Vijay Nadkarni
1) How did you get to know of Janaagraha?
I first heard of Janaagraha back in early 2005. It was so long ago that I don't really remember how I found out about it. But from later that year, I began to get more and more interested and I started to follow Janaagraha in the news, on the web and in the blog world
