Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
It is a busy time here: the Bala Janaagraha volunteer training commences this week. Ward Infrastructure & Services Assessment [WISA] surveys to collect data on public infrastructure and services delivery are continuing well. Young Urban Voter Arise [YUVA!] finally got approval from a project partner, and Knowledge Management has begun under the guidance of the Research programme. State Enhanced Electoral Roll System [STEERS] and Decentralised Planning Guidelines projects are progressing as the Election Commission and Planning Commission respectively are reviewing these reform suggestions proposed by Janaagraha. The YUVA! Program sends out a clarion call for volunteers across the country! Do get in touchjasmine@janaagraha.org . A host of school kids volunteered last month supporting the WISA project! You can see some of them in the picture. Bala Janaagraha has interesting opportunities for those who want to work with children. 5-6 hours a week is all you need to spare. Do write inrama@janaagraha.org
One can teach, train, motivate, research, analyse, survey, design, plan, execute and much more by getting involved in any one of the many volunteer opportunities that are open with Janaagraha. We encourage you to come and be a part of this exciting world which has school kids, college students, working professionals, government agencies, civil society, companies, homemakers and many more that are a part of the Janaagraha volunteer tapestry. All working towards catalysing change to bring about a great quality of life in our cities and towns!
“ Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love” - Edmond Burke

WEARING THE V HAT
Akheela Keshava, Research Volunteer: "I have been interning in Janaagraha as part of the Research team for a month-and-a-half now. From the very first day of internship the entire team of Janaagraha has been very welcoming and supportive, needless to say, the motivation that everybody carries proved to be infectious. The organization has endowed me with a totally new perspective. My work here has been challenging, interesting and a great learning experience. I have probably gained more from the organization than I have managed to contribute to it; nevertheless it is an association that I cherish."
Tajammul Hussain, WISA Volunteer: " Throughout my career in the private sector, every time someone asked me, "How are you contributing towards the betterment of the country? "I gave a very common answer - " I am paying tax ". But somehow deep inside, I always felt uncomfortable with this answer. I always felt that just paying tax was not enough. As an active citizen of a democratic nation, I felt that I was gifted with the decent intelligence, intellect and skills; and it was my responsibility to contribute to the nation and work towards the collective upliftment of society. I wanted to move from a place where I was constantly complaining about the situation on the ground to a position where I was contributing to solving our country’s problems..."
