Janaagraha Communications facilitates information exchange and dialogue across stakeholder groups with the goal of positioning Janaagraha’s added value and our work in the context of Urban Governance and Citizen Participation.

- Responsible for creating and editing contentfor internal and external use
- Responsible for tuning content message and the style of delivery, including translation and localization
- Responsible for releasing the content of use
- Manage key communication channels including local publication intranet/ internet, etc
- Cultivate strong relationships with national/regional/ local media (print and broadcast) to deliver the organizations’ messages positively and accurately
- Work collaboratively with a diverse staff & volunteer team to create and manage cross-organizational, integrated marketing and communication strategies.
- Coordinate communications projects with vendors and contractors for the development and production of web site and other collateral.
- Work under the editorial mandate for Janaagraha communications and ensure its brand building.
Qualifications/ Experience
- Minimum 4- 6 years of relevant experience of writing / content development
- Requires excellent written and verbal communications.
- Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently.

Description: The Manager, Operations will undertake the following under the overall guidance of the Programme Coordinator:

Liaising with the technology team and assist in conceptualizing, designing, testing and rolling out the website,

Liaising with the media team in conceptalisation and rolling out of the media campaign for the website,

Monitor quality, nature of hits on the website as it is rolled out,

Liaise with HRD team to select Research Associates for the full complement of ipab,
-
Obtain government instructions, guidelines, concerning delivery of key services for which FAQs/ instructions are being designed for roll out,

Smooth operation of the ipab website,

Conceptualizing and launching of additional services on the ipab website

Roll out of ipab to other cities
Skills required: A commitment to serve society, analytical aptitude to quickly discern trends, team leadership skills, familiarity with web operations, excellent written and spoken skills in English, excellent skills on MS office and similar software applications, ability to put in hard work knowing that immediate results may not emerge all the time.

Major Responsibilities:

- Will maintain a database of potential donors and current partners
- Analysis and monitoring of monthly and annual accounts

- Negotiate short-term & long-term finance facilities on behalf of the organization.

The Outreach Associate (Communities) will be responsible for running the central desk of Community Outreach and for training and on-ground deployment of volunteers who work with this campaign – the Area Voter Mitras.
Following is an indicative list of activities that the role of Outreach
Associate would involve:
- AVM training sessions – Taking complete charge of all activities
involved in organizing an AVM training session eg. scheduling slots,
blocking venues, training day logistics, delivery of the half-day training
module (in both Kannada and English) etc. - Ongoing support and engagement – Support the activities and needs of all
AVMs on an ongoing basis. Engage with the AVM network to promote specific
calls to action of the campaign – conducting registration drives, get out
the vote drives, monthly meet ups etc. - Running Central Desk – Central Desk of outreach consists largely of
volunteers, and takes care of all updates / responses from the campaign.

GIS

This person will define the overall GIS strategy for Janaagraha and also develop map APIs when necessary
Responsibilities include

Supervising and managing the work of the geographic information system analysts in the creation of maps containing inter- and intranational borders, transportation networks and environmental resources.

Meeting with the client, often a municipality or other government agency, in order to determine the needs of the community and client.

Delegating the various cartographical tasks to subordinate GIS specialists and managing the progress of the work performed.

Geospatial modelling, real analysis and data manipulation in order to efficiently utilize all technical programming available to the coordinator.
Qualifications/ Experience

3 years experience in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS server application development using .NET

Very good knowledge of Web GIS development using ArcGIS server components

Knowledge of MS SQL Server or other RDBMS database design and development skills preferred.

India Urban Space ![]()
India Urban Space Foundation (a sister organization of Janaagraha) in partnership with the Ministry of Urban Development, seeks to bring in a spatial focus into planning and other issues affecting urban areas. Some of their work includes advocating key policies, practices and standards to states and civic agencies, helping to build capacity of ULBs and engaging proactively with the private sector and other urban institutions.

Reporting to the CEO, IUSP, the person will be based out of Bangalore or Delhi. The person will have to spend significant time in the other location, i.e. if based in Blr, the person will have to travel to Delhi for coordinating events etc. happening there. Alternately, the person will have to travel to Blr for commercial/admin issues, or events/activities based there.
Event Planning and Management:
Much of IUSP activities will continue to revolve around events, or programs that are communication intensive like competitions. Tasks related to them include:
1. Significant effort is required in planning sequence of activities, all of which will be time bound.
2. Vendor identifcation, initial negotiations, vendor delivery and performance management.
3. Undertake written formal, written informal (emails) and oral communication under guidance from CEO.
4. Development of databases of persons/companies.
5. Coordinating all branding and printing work, travel and logistics.
6. On-site coordination of events/programs.
Sales and Commercial:
1. Sales of IUSP products/services in pre-set format. Intensive follow-up with potential customers
2. All commercial processes related to invoices, payment follow-up
3. Track all tax related issues like service tax, TDS, etc.
Coordinating with support functions:
1. Coordinating with Admin and Accounting – all payments, commercial, reciepts, etc.
2. Coordinating with IT , including updation of website, requirements for our tender portal, etc.
3. Coordinating with HR & Volunteer Mgmt – identifying/sourcing volunteers and coordinating their work.
Urban Infra Transaction Portal:
1. Undertaking tasks for market testing the proposed biz. plan revolving around the portal
2. Coordinating with IT for budgeting, IT infra definition, Functional Specs Document, System Requirement Specs, etc.
1. Graduate in Engg/Post Grad in any discipline, Urban Planner or Civil Engineer preferred
2. Atleast two years of work exp in challenging environments, not more than five
3. Prior exposure to urban/government/infrastructure not essential, but will be added advantage
4. Any prior exposure to commercial issues/experience in capital good marketing/concept selling etc. will be added advantage
5. IT background not required.

Large part of the role for the first year of Project INSPIRE will pertain to preparation of the National Code of Policies & Practices for Spatial Planning of Cities.
Diverse aspects of the role involve:
- Anchoring wide consultation, inputs and feedback. Absorbing specialist and expert inputs on diverse aspects that include - Leveraging technology, satellite imagery and GIS in spatial planning; Heritage; Urban Design; Land, real estate and housing; Environment & ecosystems; Economic analysis – national, regional and local; Infrastructure & services, Demographic and consumer trends, etc.
- Indepth research of national and international practices, prevailing documentation
- Rigorous review of city plans – Regional plans, district plans, CDPs, Master Plans, CDS, etc.
- Documentation - Ability to structure a document, and draft the content, which includes the main body text and annexes. They will comprise norms and codes, process charts, draft / outline policies, case studies, illustrations, et al.. related to spatial planning.
- Thorough review of the documentation prepared, cross-verification for consistency, completeness, accuracy, references, etc.
- Structuring and outlining content of workshops / conferences and events organised jointly with the MoUD related to Project INSPIRE
Skills / Qualification and Experience:
The candidate should be a Post-Graduate in Urban Planning, preferably with focus on Urban and Regional Planning. The candidate should possess about 10 years of relevant experience (not more than 15 yrs) in roles involving urban planning, development and management issues. Candidates with graduation in economics and social sciences will have added advantage. Candidates with consulting experience and specifically in preparation of Master Plans will be preferred.
The candidate should be self-driven and goal oriented. He / she should possess excellent oral communication skills, and have a flair for networking with senior professionals and experts.

Large part of the role for the first year of Project PLATINUM will pertain to preparation of the Guidance Framework for Implementation of GLT in urban areas.
The Coordinator will play a nodal role in extracting, assimilating and integrating inputs from experts of diverse areas, which are all critical for evolving the guidance framework.
Diverse aspects of the role involve:
- Anchoring wide consultation, inputs and feedback – working closely with experts in areas of
- Land survey, land records management, registration
- GIS and mapping technologies, data and workflow applications integrated with spatial data
- Networking between departments and databases, information security
- Legislative review, legal aspects
- State Government finances, managing contingent liability in public finances
- Institutional reforms, organisation restructuring, process reengineering
- Indepth research of national and international practices, prevailing documentation related to GLT
- Rigorous review of legislation, records and processes in different states pertaining to survey, land management, land record maintenance, registration, document flow, etc.
- National Land Records Modernisation Program of GOI (NLRMP) – examine its approach and implementation progress in different pilot districts, across States. Examine its impact, challenges and extent of ground covered for implementing GLT.
- Documentation - Ability to structure a document, and draft the content. This will comprise – policy analysis, institutional analysis, process charts, draft / outline policies, case studies, illustrations, et al.. related to transition required for GLT
- Thorough review of the documentation prepared, cross-verification for consistency, completeness, accuracy, references, etc.
- Structuring and outlining content of workshops / conferences and events organised jointly with the MoUD related to Project PLATINUM.
Skills / Qualification and Experience:
The candidate should be a Post-Graduate in Urban Planning / Law / Management, preferably with academic exposure to issues concerning public policy and public administration. The candidate should possess about 10 years of relevant experience (not more than 15 yrs) in roles involving urban planning, legal advisory services, institutional development in Government, public administration, etc. Candidates with consulting experience and specifically in institutional development and regulatory reforms will be preferred.

The role for the Coordinator in driven by the annual plan of activities envisaged under the project, and involves responsibility for delivery of all outputs / reports / events on time and of high quality. The major activities under the project are:
State level preparatory work: State level Status of Street lighting report and Citizen perception survey.
Launch of State program through State level conference on public lighting and Tripartite MoU between State Government, IndiaUSP and the sponsor (industry leader).
Preparing Handbook on Street Lighting Standards, Model tenders and contract documents, Training Manuals.
Incubating State Resource Centre (SRC) on Street lighting, support in staffing SRC and preparing its annual plan of activities.
Hand-holding SRC for period of about 6 months
Apart from full-time Public Lighting Engineer working with the Coordinator, additional Technical Experts will be engaged for contributing to the preparation of the deliverables – Senior retired Government electrical engineers from Municipal / PWD, Energy Efficiency Experts, Urban Designers / planners, Project formulation experts, etc.
The role of the Coordinator will mainly comprise:
- Anchoring preparation of the deliverables, with inputs from experts and support from the FT resource
- Preparing status reports and survey reports. Identifying survey agencies & executing the survey.
- Liaison with the Urban Development Department of the State Government/s, and build relationship and partnership with senior officials.
- Developing high-quality communication, maintaining design and presentation of all reports.
- Conceptualise and anchor state level conference and events, including training programs.
- Ensure high visibility, branding, positioning and projection as the industry
leader of the sponsor company
Skills / Qualification and Experience:
The candidate should be a Post-Graduate in Urban Planning / Management. Graduation in Civil / Electrical / Mechanical / Environmental Engineering is a requirement. Candidate should have minimum 7 years (max 10 yrs) experience in – infrastructure industry, project planning and detail engineering, civil engineering project / contract management, business development, market analysis of infrastructure sector.
Candidate should have flair for concept marketing and business development. He / she should possess excellent communication skills (oral and written). Experience in consulting, structuring and writing reports will be added advantage. Project management experience is desirable. He / she should have maturity and capability to engage with senior officials, experts and other stakeholders. The candidate should be self-driven and goal oriented.
