Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
The recent weeks have been even more exciting at Janaagraha; our advocacy initiatives continue to bear fruit-chiefly on the community participation bill, communities under our leadership programme have had their Community Participation Projects[CPF] projects approved under JNNURM, the Jaago Re! One Billion Votes campaign was launched nationally; 48000 voter registrations and still counting ! Research is embarking into new partnerships and many of our programmes have consolidated their teams with new members.
In Wearing the V Hat, we hear from Arati, our Bala Janaagraha Co-coordinator who has joined us in the last few weeks. We interview Aditya who talks about his volunteering with the Jaago Re! One Billion Votes campaign. Jens worked with the WISA team; he gives us an insight into his internship experience. Our Ribbon of Honour goes to Aparna, who is volunteering in the communications programme and to Anadi in WISA.
Volunteers continue to spread the word and connect people to our work. The volunteer base has grown as a result and our mission to improve the quality of life in our cities gains added strength.
In the next few weeks Bala Janaagraha and One Billion Votes will require many volunteers who can be project mentors, city team members and facilitators. Do write to us with your interests to volunteer.
Diwali is around the corner… wishing you all a safe and happy festive season!
“ Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in” -Marjorie Moore

I have been in the non-profit sector in India since 1991, but have never worked with one that works towards improving urban governance. The mission and space Janaagraha works in, excites me most about being here. The very talented and committed team here comes from different backgrounds, but all have blended in so well into the organisation’s aspirations.Read More...
