Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
We have had a busy and exciting February 2009 following up with several launched initiatives. Strengthening our volunteer base has helped us strengthen our organization. We have had around 320 volunteers engage with us in 2008. Whether expressed as volunteer service or campaigning, the willingness and ability of citizens to give their time, out of a sense of solidarity and on an alignment with our ideals and values has had a major influence on the extent to which Janaagraha’s goals are attained and sustained. Janaagraha’s beliefs about the power of volunteerism and its contribution to our development has strengthened and multiplied by leaps and bounds! This year, we are working towards taking a proactive approach to encourage volunteerism from diverse backgrounds. Ensuring internal management frameworks favourable to volunteerism which implies consideration of appropriate new measures and improvement of existing ones which will constructively impact people’s interest to volunteer time is our focus for 2009.
The Advocacy team in Chennai has met with the Urban Development department to anchor the State Advocacy concerned with Nagara Raj Bill and Public Disclosure Bill. The STEERS program has received our project partner Microsoft’s final report on the Pilot Project with the Election Commission of India. The Bangalore City Connect team is pursuing dialogue and implementation with the members of the Government of Karnataka regarding the various projects on Traffic and Transportation in the city and The Jaago Re! One Billion Votes team is working relentlessly on building awareness and conducting registration drives towards the upcoming general elections that have been announced. Our most recent initiative, the Area Suraksha Mitra project to motivate citizens to volunteer for neighbourhood security is now in strategic partnership with key stakeholders in government and industry and they will support the launch of the programme in both Bangalore and Mumbai. We have 2,700 Area Suraksha Mitra’s who have already signed up and still counting!
This year, we will require volunteers to help us in achieving our goals right from our Advocacy initiatives to Area Suraksha Mitra. We do look forward to your continued support in 2009 !
