Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
We have been through a whirlwind of activity in the last few weeks. The general elections saw the Jaago Re! One Billion Votes campaign peak in its on ground activities of encouraging the urban voter to exercise their right to make a choice, in addition we also saw the launch of One Billion Voters, the campaign to bring about informed civic participation. The number of Area Suraksha Mitra’s signing up to participate in enhancing neighbourhood security is seeing a steady increase. One Civil defence division in the city was formally launched with more to go this month! The WISA project has hit the ground literally with its pilot project of surveying the ward to fill in data for the infrastructure indicators.
The Bala Janaagraha Programme for 09-10 will be launching next month and is looking for volunteers to aid the programme in schools. In this edition you will hear from the many volunteers who contributed across diverse areas of Jaago Re! One Billion Votes and One Billion Voters. They along with hundreds of volunteers across the country in various cities have aided in taking the campaign to the ground.
It does not end here, activities are being detailed and consolidated across Janaagraha to ensure we achieve the maximum impact through our work in affecting the quality of life and in ensuring richer democratic processes. We always end these notes with a quote on volunteering, this time around in keeping with the current season of elections & voting, we take a quote on democracy!
“If liberty and equality, as is thought by some are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost” - Aristotle

RIBBON OF HONOUR:
Uthara - Volunteer, One Billion Voters
Uthara has been volunteering in the communications team of One Billion Voters campaign for more than a month now. She has been wonderfully diligent in executing her responsibilities, and has shown a great appetite to help our other team members too. In a campaign like OBV, there are so many activities that are happening in parallel and to find volunteers who are able to work effectively with multiple team members is a real asset.

Siddharth - Volunteer, One Billion Voters
Siddharth is volunteering in the One Billion Voters campaign for 3 months now.Though he came with a technology background,he was very open towards helping out in any part of the campaign. He is currently leading a very important research project being carried out under this campaign to evaluate which strategy helps to get a better voter turnout. He is also doing a feedback capstone on the campaign,to document the learnings and areas of improvements for the year ahead.Siddharth is classic example of how volunteers can add substantial value to Janaagraha in short time spans.

WEARING THE V HAT
Pranay Prakash, Volunteer, One Billion Votes
"Jaago Re! One Billion Votes, in the beginning was about the cause but with time I had begin to realize its more than just an experience. Learning about the system and the structural complications in an organisation is the most endearing experience so far. The One Billion Votes outreach team I’ve been associated for the past few months were fun to work with and just being among them has taught me a great deal. Meeting up with CSR and HR heads, addressing crowds, campaigning, organising events is something I would look back upon. Just the thought of educating and getting people of various strata of society to register to vote at times like these, to me, is a small step that could bring about a big change in this country in years to come".
