Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
Greetings! Our volunteers continue to give us reason to appreciate and we take this opportunity to acknowledge the value and contributions they make to our work. Be it teaching children, working with government agencies, communities, mobilizing volunteers, writing, strategizing, researching, analyzing, designing, coding, doing field surveys; they do it all and more!
Our initiative on neighbourhood security: Area Suraksha Mitra [ASM] with the Civil Defence and the Home Guards in Bangalore, and the Jaagte Raho! campaign have seen a strengthening of partnerships. As part of the Area Suraksha Mitra campaign to revitalize the Civil Defence, the Civil Defence- Division 7: under the jurisdiction of Vijayanagar and Chandra Layout police stations was launched last week. Civil Defence- Division 40: Frazer Town and DJ Halli and Division 41: Hennur and KG Halli will be launched this week.
Jaagte Raho! is mobilizing volunteers towards creating Booth Level Leaders in the city to enhance the voter experience. The campaign is also reaching out to academic institutions and companies to establish Jaagte Raho! clubs to promote electoral and civic engagement.
The Bala Janaagraha programme has taken off in Ahmedabad and is reaching out to 500 children there. Children in Bala Janaagraha schools in Bangalore are gearing up for the civic project as part of their programme. In this issue of VPeople interns and volunteers share their experiences.
This edition also carries details of volunteer opportunities and we request you to circulate this in your networks and enable the word to spread.

RIBBON OF HONOUR:
Prashanth, Volunteering with one of Janaagraha’s flagship
"Prashanth has been volunteering with One Billion Voters campaign for the last 2 months. He comes with a rich experience of working on political and grassroots mobilization campaigns in US and has therefore been a huge asset for the team, as we set ourselves on a gigantic effort to reach out to communities and institutions across Bangalore. Besides skills and relevant experience, it is the quality of time that Prashanth has given to the campaign that stands out clearly. Given his technical background, he also volunteered to help us out with the website vendor evaluation process where again his contribution made a difference"

"It is well said that ‘Serving people is the best service to God’ and ‘Patriotism is the greatest wealth for a Nation’.
As a responsible human being there was always a burning desire inside me to serve humanity in one way or another according to my capabilities. Janaagraha has been working towards the betterment of society for many years. It was, therefore, a great honor for me when I got a chance to participate in the community service program. It is very hard in this monetary world to work for the cause of people without any monetary value attached to it; but yes, after being a part of this humble activity I freely felt that there is also a satisfaction that is much bigger than wealth.
I will like to thank some special people of Janaagraha such as Gautham, Pradeep & Anjaana for all support that they gave me during this period and all the motivation that they instilled in me. I assure you all that I will continue to help Janaagraha in the future in any possible way that I can."

"My stint with Jaagte-Raho! began when the JaagoRe! campaign had taken the country by storm the previous year, inculcating in me a deep interest in the civic and electoral issues of the country. It was a natural progression for me to volunteer my services to such a movement and the research team at Janaagraha were more than willing to oblige. My involvement in the Jaagte-Raho! Research and Advocacy team has given me comprehensive exposure to the issues of active participation and encouraged me to think of ways to overcome these issues and utilize my knowledge of technology, networking and communications to instill a sense of awareness in the youth of the country. From the point of view of my personal growth, I have come a long way from saying a few monosyllables on the electoral situation in our country to hour long conversations that I am able to have now and also influence others to think and act. I am indeed, incredibly lucky to have been given this opportunity and be a part of this big change "
LOOK WHO'S TALKING
Interview with Karthik Krishnan, volunteer for Jaagte Raho!, BITS Pilani
1) How did you get to know of Janaagraha?
I heard about Janaagraha when I was pursuing my engineering degree.
