Planning and Development (P&D) is a newly-created, formalized programme that supports the core programmes of Janaagraha. The P&D team has two core mandates – fundraising and business planning. Fundraising is a formal process within Janaagraha, where a twofold strategy is employed – receipts from high net worth donors, and forming partnerships with foundations. On the planning front, following 10 years of growth and evolution, Janaagraha is now in the process of establishing itself as an institution. Like any other prominent institution, it is necessary to create a formalized structure and have a performance reporting framework in place that is transparent. This constitutes the planning component of the P&D team's mandate.
In 2012-13 the P&D team's KPIs include receipt of cash donations from existing donors, prospects, and our largest institutional donor Omidyar Networks. Also within the P&D team's mandate for the year are ensuring successful recruitment of 'High Net Worth Donors' at two important dinners – one in India, the other in the United States. The team will also be assessed against its compliance with providing monthly/quarterly program updates to external stakeholders and donors.
The programme ensured the release of the institution's first ever annual report in both electronic and print form, however, monthly updates were not sent out to the same, due to challenges in the system which are being remedied. From Q2 onwards, a detailed archiving system has been put in place which will greatly aid the compilation of reports for external stakeholders.
In Q2, the P&D team will take receipt of funds owing from Omidyar Network's 2011-12 commitment to Janaagraha. The Performance Grant (USD 100 K) and Matching Grant Proposal (Ceiling of USD 600K) were submitted to Omidyar, and follow up has started on providing clarifications and receiving the grant amounts as per our existing agreement. The team will also take receipt of donations (cash and in-kind) from a prospective donor – Dell Youth Connect. The team has received a grant letter from Dell for USD 64K and the funds shall be realised in the 2nd Quarter.
